All sounds recorded at Kapow Coffee Shop
Composed, Captured, Arranged, Mixed, Mastered by Alex Izaak Milling
The concept for this piece was to capture all of the found sounds from an industrial standard espresso machine (sanremo f.18) a long with a collection of coffee grinders whilst encapsulating the process of making one filter coffee and one cortado. I found this to be an interesting exercise in exploring the wide array of sounds that coffee has to offer that is usually overlooked as 'coffee shop ambience', as well as the relationship that coffee shops and music has with one another. The juxtaposition between electroacoustic composition and 'coffee shop music' interests me due to their intent of creation. Electroacoustic music is written to be perceived hyperactively, compared to coffee shop music which is meant to be ignored, or at the very least perceived passively. Because of this and my personal relationships with both coffee shops and 'active' genres in music such as noise, electroacoustic composition and extended improvised music, I thought this would be an interesting concept to explore.
